Cottage School Philosophy
Your child is an individual, and we believe their education should be individualized as well. With our forward thinking Contemporary Montessori Philosophy, your child’s individual learning is always in mind so they have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
We believe that children of all ages are rich in potential, motivated and curious learners, and desire to learn and develop an understanding about the world they live in. We believe that children should have access to nature and opportunities to explore and investigate the natural world daily. We offer children the opportunities to explore natural outdoor spaces with grass, trees, gardens and dirt to dig in. Our classrooms have large windows at child level for children to view the natural world throughout the seasons and all weather conditions. Our classrooms bring nature inside with natural wood, marine fish tanks, plants the children care for and the purposeful absence of plastic when possible.
Our classrooms are large and open with ample natural lighting. Children have the opportunity to explore, investigate and develop their natural curiosity. Children’s natural sense of order is supported through visual classroom supports such as material labels on shelving and storage tubs, classroom schedules, modeling by teachers and visual behavior reminders.
Our environment and classroom schedules allow children the time and materials to promote their sense of wonder, explore and investigate, draw conclusions and develop an understanding of their world through their personal experience. We encourage all young children to become environmental stewards of tomorrow.
